Systems Navigator

Systems Navigator allows cross-organizational use of a set of networked systems management and analysis resources, which can be configured to allow targeted device access to each user. The tools provided with Systems Navigator provide metric trending, security scanning, system monitoring, software/patch maintenance, system maintenance and information reporting, and web statistics. Additional tools include E-mail, calendars, real-time chat, message boards, business applications and news headlines. Your customers will appreciate the power and convenience of the tools at their disposal, while you'll enjoy the ability to offer a level of service far beyond that of your competition.

The user interface ties together a variety of open source, third-party and in-house software into one smooth user interface through the use of "pidgets". Each pidget is a web-enabled window to a particular tool. Add or subtract new pidgets through our convenient user interface to achieve your own unique level of functionality.

larrd

larrd is a framework developed to work as an add-on to Big Brother. Its primary focus is to trend unix system metrics with an open source project called RRDtool. larrd is written in perl, please download a copy and review the code for yourself. The primary effort of this project right now is to define what metrics to trend and why they are important. The project is at a transition point and it is important to know that this project started out as shell scripts. During the move over to perl it has maintained much of its shell roots. Part of the transition is recognizing that the shell roots are limiting larrd's potential. As the lead programmer I am currently designing a new framework for larrd. I have three goals that I wish to accomplish in the redesign of the framework.

  1. Create a consistent interface for larrd modules. That allows for easy development, deployment, and allow for externalization of metrics gathering.
  2. Abstract from the user the use of RRDtool.
  3. Design a method that allows a perl programmer to design their own methods for graphing the metrics. Part of this redesign will require including graphing definitions into the larrd module.

Control Point

Control Point is a web hosting system. This system was designed to improve the reliability and manageability of current hosting systems, while providing the user with a powerful yet easy to use interface. The major architecture goals were as follows:

  • Allow the Control Point system to manage web hosting in a dedicated and shared environment.
  • Give resellers the ability to manage web sites independently, without the need to contact support.
  • Control Point users should only authenticate one time.
  • Modular software components to allow for future back-end additions and changes.
  • Complete logging to aid in problem determination.
  • Rollback process to delete partially created accounts.
  • Consistent Graphical User Interface.

dsl.nni.com

During my time with NuNet, Inc. I developed a Web based application to interface Covad's XML based qualification system. It required using the following perl modules LWP::UserAgent and XML::Parser. It gathers information from the users then a XML request is formulate then sent to Covad real-time. A XML response is then parsed. The information on the users qualification is then presented to the user. To see it in action goto dsl.nni.com.
